Seasonal Variation of Air Dust in Seoul City

Abstract
A study of the seasonal variation in aerosol pollution levels was carried out with a M.S.A. Midget impinger at 4 sampling stations during Winter (January 20-February 27, 1964), and Spring(April 3-May 30, 1965) and Summer (July 1 August 27, 1965). The weight concentration in milligrams per cubic meter of air was determined for each sample. The stations were set at roadsides of 2 ga, Chong-Ro, Gal-Wol-Dong, Nam-DaeMun-Ro 3 Ga, Cheon-Ke-Ro. Dust loadings on the front ground of this college over a 24-hour period, . May 30, 1964 were also observed. The results can be summarized in the following:
1. The yearly. mean of air dust Seoul indicated 15.2mg/m3, which was further divided into 10.2 mg/m3 in Spring, 11.8 mg in Summer and 23.6 mg/m3 in Winter. The dust loads during Winter doubled those of spring and Summer seasons.
2. The weight of air dust on the paved roads was not much influenced by the vehicles in motion.
3. The dust trends over the 24-hour period at the college campus varied somewhat from time to time but showed on the average 3.6-4.8 mg/m3 during 24:00-12:00 hours :and reached the highest peak level with 8.8 mg/m3 around at 18:00-20:000 hours.
